1
Arrival in Paro and Transfer to Thimphu
Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our representative, who will assist with immigration formalities and guide you throughout your journey. From Paro, embark on a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city, where you will check into your hotel and have time to refresh.
Begin your exploration of Bhutan with visits to:
- Kuensel Phodrang: Admire the towering Buddha Dordenma statue and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley.
- Craft Bazaar: Wander through 80 vibrant stalls offering authentic Bhutanese arts and crafts, providing the perfect opportunity to purchase local handmade products.
- Tashichhoe Dzong: Visit this grand fortress, which houses the King’s office, the secretariat, and the central monk body. Built in 1641, it remains a central symbol of Bhutanese culture and religion.

Thimphu to Punakha (Distance: 71 km, estimated driving time: 2 ½ hours)
After breakfast, embark on a scenic journey to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,140 m). On clear days, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan Mountain ranges. Along the way, stop at the 108 chortens (stupas) built by Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, dedicated to the security and well-being of His Majesty, the King of Bhutan.
Visit the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, a monastery built as a tribute to His Majesty, the fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and the armed forces following a successful operation against Indian militants. The monastery’s gallery showcases stunning murals depicting significant events during the reign of Bhutan’s Kings.
Continue to Punakha, a region deeply connected to Bhutanese history and culture. Once the capital of Bhutan (1637–1907), Punakha remains one of the most beautiful and historically significant destinations.
Stop for lunch at Metsina Village, followed by a visit to the Chimi Lhakhang, the “Divine Madman’s Monastery.” Known as a fertility shrine, it is popular among couples seeking blessings for children.
Later, visit the iconic Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River). Built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the dzong served as the administrative and religious center of the region and is a masterpiece of Bhutanese woodwork and architecture.

After breakfast, set off on a scenic drive to Paro, stopping at key attractions along the way:

Tamchog Lhakhang & Suspension Bridge: Located across the river from the Thimphu-Paro highway, this 13th-century Lhakhang was built by the Tibetan saint Thangthong Gyalpo, who was both a blacksmith and architect. To access the temple, cross an iron chain suspension bridge, which offers a thrilling experience and a glimpse into Bhutan’s engineering history. Some of the original chain links are preserved in Paro’s National Museum.

Paro Airport Bird’s Eye View: Paro International Airport, Bhutan’s sole international airport, is a marvel of architecture and natural beauty. Known for its challenging landings due to surrounding mountains, the airport is one of the most scenic in the world, offering breathtaking views of the Paro valley.
Upon arrival in Paro, check into your hotel and refresh. Later, visit the National Museum, housed in the historic Ta Dzong, a former watchtower. The museum showcases an impressive collection of artifacts that illustrate Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage.
In the evening, stroll through Paro town, exploring local handicraft stores and soaking in the charm of this picturesque valley.

A Day Hike to Taktsang Ghoempa (Tiger’s Nest Monastery)
Start your day with an exhilarating hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest. The journey to the viewpoint takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and offers spectacular views of the monastery, which is dramatically perched on a cliffside. Take a short break at the Viewpoint Cafeteria to enjoy the scenery before continuing the one-hour ascent to the monastery.
According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this site on the back of a tigress in the 8th century and meditated here for three months, making it one of Bhutan’s most sacred sites. Despite being damaged by a fire in 1998, the monastery has been meticulously restored to its former glory.
After exploring the monastery and soaking in its spiritual ambiance, begin your descent. Stop for lunch at the Viewpoint Cafeteria before continuing downhill to the base.
In the afternoon, take a short drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a 17th-century fortress built in 1649 to defend Bhutan against Tibetan invasions. Though partially destroyed by a fire in 1951, its ruins remain a testament to Bhutanese resilience and history. Reconstruction began in 2016, giving visitors a glimpse of its former grandeur.
Conclude the day with an overnight stay in Paro.
